Favourite Memory: Having strudel and cappuccino with my best friends while enjoying the fresh air and views of the Matterhorn
In a nutshell: This is the end of the line- literally! Zermatt is a no-car town and is the last stop on the cog wheel train coming up from Visp. It has fantastic views, great for year-round sports, good food and very expensive shopping. Hotels are amongst the most expensive in Switzerland but you can stay in cities neary by and go up for the day.

The best tasting water comes from fountains fed from natural springs.
Small hotels are full of charm. Fluffy duvet covers and fresh croissants everywhere!
Cheese fondue is common, but here we sampled mushroom and pear fondues. Both excellent.
Local residents keep their homes full of fresh flowers and many have their own vegetable garden.
If you are lucky you will see the goats coming down the Bahnhoffstrasse in the early evening. Actually you will hear them before you see them. The bells make quite a sound!
Take the Gornergrat (mountain railway) higher up for better views of the Matterhorn and hike back down to Zermatt.
Some buildings are very interesting.
